Pre- and Post-Treatment Information
CoolSculpting
Post-Treatment
What to expect during CoolSculpting:
» CoolSculpting is a non-surgical procedure that may take from one to several hours, depending on your treatment plan.
» No topical anaesthesia or pain medication is required.
» As the procedure is initiated, vacuum pressure draws tissue into an applicator cup between cooling panels. The vacuum pressure may cause sensations of deep pulling, tugging and pinching in the area being treated.
» You also may experience intense stinging, tingling, aching or cramping. These sensations generally subside as the area becomes numb.
What to expect immediately after CoolSculpting:
» Immediately after the procedure, your treated area may look or feel stiff and transient blanching (temporary whitening of the skin) may occur.
» You may feel a sense of nausea or dizziness as your body naturally warms and sensation returns to your treatment area. These are normal reactions that typically resolve within minutes.
» The treated area may be red for up to a few hours after the applicator is removed. This is an expected but temporary effect after CoolSculpting.
» Bruising, swelling and tenderness can occur in the treated area. This typically resolves within a week or two.
» Nausea and tingling, stinging and cramping in the treatment area are often reported on treatment day.
» You may feel a temporary dulling of sensation in the treated area. This is normal and typically resolves within a few hours but may last for several weeks after your procedure.
» There is typically very minimal recovery time after CoolSculpting. Most patients are able to return to their daily routine immediately after the procedure.
What to expect the first few days and weeks after CoolSculpting:
» It is common for the treated area to feel bloated and look swollen in the first few days and weeks after CoolSculpting.
» You may experience a temporary dulling of sensation that can last for several weeks.
» At some point within the first two weeks following the procedure, you may experience one or more of the following sensations: deep itching, tingling, numbness, tenderness to the touch, pain in the treated area, strong cramping, diarrhea, muscle spasms, aching and/or soreness. Consult your doctor if these conditions persist beyond two weeks or worsen over time.
» Following the procedure, a gradual reduction in the thickness of the fat layer will take place. You may start to see changes as early as three weeks after CoolSculpting and you will experience the most dramatic results after one to three months. Your body will continue naturally to process the injured fat cells from your body for approximately four months after your procedure.
Next steps:
» Weight gain will prevent you from appreciating your full results. Maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine
after your procedure can help prevent this.
» Schedule a follow-up medical assessment to review your clinical results and discuss the option of additional treatments to achieve desired fat reduction.
While we endeavour to provide you the best outcome, results are not guaranteed.
Please call us at (250) 860-9919 if your symptoms appear to worsen or last longer than two weeks.
Soft Lift®
Pre-Treatment
Please read the following pre-treatment instructions carefully. If you have any questions or concerns, please call our office at 250-860-9919.
General Instructions
- Please eat a moderate meal before your appointment to help reduce the risk of feeling faint or dizzy after injections.
- Please do not come with any make-up on your face, as you will be asked to wash it off before treatment. Be aware that we strongly discourage putting makeup on for 24 hours post-injections to reduce the risk of any infection.
- Schedule your appointment at least 2 weeks (preferably 4-6) before any big events (such as a wedding or a vacation) to allow time for healing from any bruising or swelling that may occur. Please keep in mind that optimal results manifest at about 1 month post-treatment.
- Please reschedule your appointment for two weeks later if you have any open wounds, sores, or rashes in the area to be treated.
- Please reschedule your appointment if you have any active infections until after the infection is cleared.
- Please come for your two week follow up if this is your first injectable treatment with us. We want to ensure you have optimal treatment, and slight adjustments may need to be done by your provider.
- If you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, please give us 24 hours’ notice, as you may be subject to a late cancellation or a NO SHOW fee. We have set aside this appointment especially for you, so please respect your provider’s time.
Medical History
- Please inform your practitioner if you have a history of Perioral Herpes (cold sores) to receive advice on antiviral therapy prior to treatment. Injections in the lips or around the mouth area may cause a flare-up.
- Please discuss any medications you take with your provider prior to the procedure, including any herbal or vitamin supplements you may be taking.
- Please be advised that pregnancy and/or breastfeeding is a contraindication for treatment, and we will not be able to treat you.
- Please inform your practitioner if you have any history of auto-immune disorders or neurological disorders, as these may be a contraindication to treatment.
- Please inform your practitioner of any allergies you may have or reactions to any procedures in the past.
Please consider discontinuing the following medication, foods and supplements prior to your cosmetic injections to help minimize bruising and bleeding.
- ALCOHOL in general, at least 24 hours pre-injections and 24 hours post-injections
- NSAIDS (anti-inflammatory medication), such as Aleve, Toradol, Ibuprofen (Advil/Motrin), and Indocid.
- ASA FAMILY medications (unless taking for cardiac reasons), including Aspirin or Excedrin.
- FOODS containing ginger, salmon, green tea, sunflower seeds, fish oils, raw fish, or anything high in OMEGA 3 content.
- HERBAL AND VITAMIN SUPPLEMENTS containing fish oils, garlic pills, green tea extract, ginkgo biloba, flax seed, vitamin E, Omega 3, Omega 6 or fatty acids.
ANECDOTAL PROPHYLAXIS
- Eating plenty of dark leafy greens before your appointment may reduce your risk of bruising.
- ARNICA topical cream or gel may be applied post-procedure to help reduce bruising or speed up healing time. We do not recommend oral Arnica, as studies have shown this may increase your risk of heart attack or stroke.
We strive to provide the best patient care and most optimal cosmetic outcomes. We appreciate your adherence to these instructions. Please discuss any questions or concerns with your provider before you begin treatment.
Botox® Cosmetic
Pre-Treatment
Before Your Botox® Treatment
Of course, before starting treatment, you’ll want to discuss your medical history and what you can expect from your treatment with your physician. Botox Cosmetic® should not be used if you have a history of previous allergy to botulinum toxins (though this is not common). They may not be suitable for those with an active infection, such as acne, at the injection site or a history of disease affecting your nerves and muscles.
As with all medicines, if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant soon, or are breastfeeding, prescription injections may not be right for you.
Be sure that your qualified physician knows about all prescription and over-the-counter medicines you’re using, as well as any vitamin or nutritional supplements you’re currently taking.
As expected with any injection procedure, discomfort/burning/stinging/swelling and/or bruising may be associated with the injection. In rare instances, you may experience headaches, drooping eyelids (this should be temporary and should go away when the effects of the injection wear off), discomfort or bruising, skin redness, and local muscle weakness. Remember, going to an experienced physician will reduce the risk of many side effects.
Post-Treatment
After your Botox® Treatment
After a Botox Cosmetic® treatment, you can generally go right back to your normal activities.
PLEASE DO
- Enjoy our complimentary makeup touch-up at the clinic before you leave.
- If you need to apply makeup within four hours of your treatment, use a gentle touch to avoid rubbing the area.
- Try to gently exercise your treated muscles for the first 30 minutes after treatment: practice frowning, raising your eyebrows, or squinting. This helps to work Botox Cosmetic® into your muscles. Although this is thought to help, it will not impact your treatment negatively if you forget.
- Feel free to shower and/or continue with other regular daily activities.
- Be assured that any tiny bumps or marks will go away within a few hours after your treatment.
PLEASE AVOID
- Do not rub or massage the treated area for 24 hours after your treatment.
- Do not do strenuous exercise for four hours post-treatment. This will minimize the risk of raising your blood pressure and therefore, reduce the risk of temporary bruising.
- Avoid facials or saunas for four hours after your treatment.
- Do not lie down for four hours after treatment. This lowers the risks of putting pressure on, or accidentally rubbing, the treated area.
TREATMENT RESULTS/EXPECTATIONS & FOLLOW-UP
- The results of your treatment can take up to 14 days* to take full effect. Usually patients notice a change in 4–5 days*. Please wait until the 14 days have passed before assessing your treatment results.
- We would like to see you for a follow-up assessment two weeks after your first treatment. This will ensure we are able to see how your facial muscles react to your treatments. If you require more product to fine-tune your treatment results, it will be done at this time at an additional cost. Alternatively, product may not be required and the visit would be complimentary.
- Likewise, Lakeshore Vein & Aesthetics Clinic recommends patients have a 3–4 month follow-up appointment so that we can achieve the best results for you. If you allow Botox Cosmetic® to completely wear off, it is difficult for us to be able to see how your individual muscles reacted and therefore optimal results for your face will be harder to achieve.
- If you and your physician are pleased with the results of a Botox Cosmetic® treatment, it is common practice to plan additional treatments to maintain the results. If you don’t continue treatment, the wrinkles in the treated area will gradually return to the way it looked before your initial injection, as appropriate for your age.
If you have any concerns or questions, please contact the clinic immediately.

Please call our office at 250 860 9919 during regular business hours if you encounter any issues or have any questions.
Pre-Treatment
Before the procedure, your injector will evaluate your skin type and discuss your medical history. They can answer your questions and discuss your goals for the treatment. Consider using Allergan’s Before and After Visualizer App (iPhone & Android) to create your own customized images and bring it to your consultation.
Depending on your particular needs, your injector may recommend using a combination treatment, such as Botox Cosmetic® and a filler (aka a Soft Lift).
During Treatment
Depending on the area treated, there may be some discomfort. You may feel an initial sting but only for a moment. Depending on your treatment program, your injector might use a topical anaesthetic similar to what’s used when you get a filling.
Post-Treatment
After treatment with dermal fillers, results can be seen immediately; the lines on your face should appear minimized and smoothed out. If your treatment plan included lip enhancement, you’ll notice that your lips appear fuller and more defined. If your plan included adding volume to your cheeks, you will notice that your cheeks look more youthful and your face looks more fresh.
Immediately after treatment it’s perfectly normal to experience some minor and temporary effects like:
- stinging
- discolouration
- bruising
- mild to moderate redness
- swelling
Typically, these responses are temporary and, if they do occur, will usually go away within a couple of days. It’s also normal to experience temporary puffiness of the treated areas.
If any of these symptoms last more than a day or two, be sure to tell your physician. There’s a small risk of sensitivity to the filler. If you have a history of cold sores, you may experience an outbreak of cold sores after treatment. This can be minimized by the use of antiviral medicines before treatment.
If you have any concerns or questions, please contact the clinic immediately.
Laser Hair Removal
Pre-Treatment
Laser hair removal is an established method of treating unwanted and/or excess hair.
To maximize your results, please follow these instructions:
- Area to be treated should be shaved prior to treatment (night before or day of).
- Skin should be free of make-up, creams or lotions prior to treatment.
- If you think that you may need some topical anesthetic, Emla can be purchased over the counter at a pharmacy.
- If this is not strong enough, we do have the option of using our prescription level topical anesthetic, which would cost an additional $25 on top of your appointment charge. This must be applied prior to your treatment time by your service provider. Your appointment will be booked at least 45 minutes longer.
- 6 to 8 appointments are usually required spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart.
Post-Treatment
After Alexandrite/Elite laser hair removal:
PLEASE DO
- Wash treated area gently with a mild cleanser such as Cetaphil. If the treated area is irritated, do not rub with a towel – rather pat dry.
- Apply Aquaphor ointment (or similar) to the area for re-hydration. If crusting develops, it should be allowed to slough off naturally. Do not pick or scratch crust.
- Resume normal skin care regimen (i.e. makeup, moisturizers, deodorant and shaving) the day after treatment if there is no blistering or crusting.
- Resume Retinol and Retin “A” products one week post-treatment.
- Use skin care products that are free from alcohol, dye and perfumes for one week post-treatment.
- If there is any break or blistering of the skin, an antibiotic ointment such as Polysporin should be used.
- If there are any signs of infection such as redness, tenderness, or pus, please contact the office.
PLEASE AVOID
- Avoid skin care products that have alcohol, dyes and perfumes for one week post-treatment.
- Do not shave the treated area for 1–3 days following treatment if crusting or blistering occurs.
- Sun exposure and tanning beds* should be avoided for a minimum of one (1) week post treatment and a broad spectrum sunscreen should be applied with an SPF of 30 or greater every 2 hours when in direct sunlight.
- Sun exposure should be avoided throughout the course of treatment. A broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or greater should be applied whenever the area is exposed to the sun.
- Do not rub, scratch or pick at the treated area while red discolouration present.
- Activities such as swimming and use of hot tubs should be avoided for the first 2–3 days or until any redness, crusting or blisters have resolved.
- Avoid rubbing or pressure caused by clothing on the treated area.
* Tanning beds should be avoided completely, as it is like excessive sun exposure: there is ample research that shows it is harmful at any level. Consider a bronzing lotion: ask us about it!
TREATMENT RESULTS/EXPECTATIONS & FOLLOW-UP
- Multiple treatments are required for laser hair removal, since only hair follicles in an active growing phase are affected – estimated to be about one-third at any one time – while the remaining two-thirds of follicles are unaffected. In addition, the body naturally grows/sprouts new hair. Typically patients should expect at least several treatments initially, followed by spot treatments as needed.
If you have any concerns or questions, please contact the clinic immediately.
V-Beam Laser
Pre-Treatment
- No sun tanning or use of tanning beds at least 2 weeks before treatment.
Post-Treatment
- Do not rub, scratch, or pick at the treated area while the bruising/red discoloration is present.
- If the area becomes tender, reddened, or shows signs of infection please call the office immediately – 250-860-9919.
- Avoid swimming and contact sports while the bruising/red discoloration is present.
- Avoid rubbing or pressure (caused by clothing) on the treated area.
- Avoid exposure to the sun. If exposure is expected apply a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher every 2 hours to avoid pigmentation changes to the lesion. IMPORTANT: if the face has been treated use sunscreen every two hours even when driving in the car in sunshine.
- If you experience any discomfort (usually not lasting more than a few hours) this may be relieved with Tylenol and cold gel packs.
- After the red discoloration disappears, hyperpigmentation (brown coloring) or hypopigmentation (white discoloration) may be present for up to 3-5 months; this is rare, but if it does occur use a sunscreen (SPF 30) on the area until normal color returns.
- Make up can be applied over the bruised area provided the skin is not broken
Please call our office at 250-860-9919 during regular business hours if you encounter any problems or have a question.
While we endeavor to provide you the best outcome, results are not guaranteed nor can we provide refunds on treatments.
Fractional CO2 Laser Treatment
Pre-Treatment
- The procedure and expectations will have been explained to you thoroughly, and we invite you to ask any/all questions.
- A brief medical history will be taken and an examination of your skin will be performed.
- For one month prior to the procedure, sun exposure, tanning beds and tanning creams are to be avoided.
- Do not wear sunscreen or make-up to your appointment.
- You will have a pre and post treatment photograph taken. This is for you and the physician only to document your progress.
- You will need to wear special eye goggles we provide during the procedure to protect your eyes against possible accidental exposure to pulsed light. ● You will have a topical anesthetic applied to the treatment area to numb the skin and make the procedure more comfortable. The topical anesthetic is applied and left on for 45-60 min. Often, other forms of anesthetic or blocks may be given to anesthetize the skin. If this is an integral part of your treatment plan, this would have been discussed with you by the doctor in your consultation.
- If your treatment involves the eyelids, protective eye shields will be placed in your eyes prior to treatment by the doctor or nurse.
- During the laser treatment, your skin will become warmer and warmer. We will cool the skin with a cold air stream and ice cloths. We will also provide you with a blanket for comfort.
- You will be given detailed post treatment instructions as well as samples of the cleanser and occlusive ointment.
- Valacyclovir (Valtrex) is an effective antiviral medication to minimize your risk of a cold sore arising after treatment that could jeopardize your final results. Ensure that you start your prescription three days before treatment and take it for the full seven days post treatment. If you suspect that you are getting a cold sore despite this medication, double the dose to 2 tablets twice a day and call the office @ 250-860-9919.
- We include this prescription in your procedure package to ensure that you have the necessary prescription for your treatment. Should you leave the clinic without booking your future treatment and then book an appointment at a later date, you would be covered by the medication prescription.
Pain Management
- You can take some Extra Strength Tylenol for discomfort two hours prior to your laser appointment. If you take anything stronger, you must have a driver. If you are having a more aggressive treatment, Tylenol # 3 may be prescribed as well as an antihistamine to take orally to help with itching.
Other
- Anxiety: Even though this is a well established and tested procedure, some people become very tense. We encourage you to discuss this with us, as we can help.
- If you would like to listen to music on your personal music player, that is great.
- Please ensure that your cell phone is switched off.
- We can’t possibly predict how quickly one heals from this procedure as people heal at different rates. You need to be informed of the potential downtime required to recover from this procedure. Most patients are back in their own makeup and return to work within a week to 10 days. Often, it might take 4-6 weeks for the “pink” appearance to diminish.
- Some possible skin reactions we observe are: redness, itchiness, swelling, crusting, milia, and breakouts. These can be mitigated by following the post-treatment instructions and usually resolve in the first few days.
Post-Treatment
To optimize your results from your skin rejuvenation, please read this carefully. If you’re unsure or have any questions with regards to your treatments, please ask the clinic team for instructions and reassurance (250-860-9919).
Immediate Post Procedure
-
Pain Management: We recommend extra strength Tylenol for the first hours post treatment. Do not use anti-inflammatories like Advil or Ibuprofen. Tylenol #3 may be prescribed if a more aggressive treatment is done.
-
Ensure that you complete the course of Valtrex (medication to reduce/avoid cold sores) as planned with the physician.
-
Depending on the depth of treatment, the skin may have an appearance ranging from pink and shiny to gray. Rough texture may last an average of 1-5 days. Skin may have a red and swollen appearance and you may experience some pin-point bleeding.
-
Everyone heals differently and at different rates. Depending on the type of treatment, some people find that they can have a rough texture for more than one week and have a “pink, sun burned” appearance for 4-6 weeks.
-
To decrease swelling, elevate the head of your bed using 2 or more pillows for the first night. Put a towel on your pillow to protect from the laser balm.
-
During the initial first 24 hours, you will have the Elta MD recovery serum and Aquaphor covering your treated area to ensure hydration. Please ensure that you keep hydrated and drink plenty of water throughout the days following the procedure.
-
Your skin may feel a little crusty and sandpapery for the first few days. Please do not pick the crusting! Allow the skin to slough off naturally.
Day One (first day after the treatment)
-
You can wash your face with the provided non-allergenic gentle Cetaphil cleanser. Add a small amount to your palm, add water and create a foam. Apply to face and rinse off with warm water. DO NOT SCRUB! You will not be able to remove all the balm and that’s ok. After each wash apply recovery serum followed by occlusive ointment. Cleanse your face AM and PM every day. This will decrease the healing time and minimize discomfort. If irritation or burning occurs with the wash, wait and try the following day.
Day Two to Three (Vinegar Soaks)
To help minimize the itch on day 2 or 3, you can apply vinegar soaks to the treated area. If you are not experiencing a lot of itch, this step can be skipped.
-
Fill a large clean bowl with cold tap water and a few ice cubes. Add 1 tablespoon of white vinegar for every cup of water. Place 2-3 clean face cloths nearby.
-
Take a few damp, almost dripping face cloths and apply over treated areas, replacing them before they dry out. You may want to repeat 2-3 times for 15-30 minutes each time. Not everyone will be able to do these soaks or will they require them. They are an option for decreasing the itch.
-
After the compresses are over, pat the area dry with a clean towel and reapply the laser balm.
-
We have included Elta MD skin recovery serum as well as Aquaphor that you can use to help with the itch and this should be applied sparingly morning and night. This is only to be used in the short term and not all patients will require it. Some patients find the addition of Benadryl, an antihistamine, helpful to decrease the discomfort from the itch. This medication can make you drowsy unless you choose the non-drowsy form. Don’t drive with this medication unless it’s non-drowsy.
Days Three to Five
-
At this time, you may start to apply your own moisturizer. If you are using your own moisturizer, use one without any perfumes, dyes, or alcohol.
-
Try a small amount of moisturizer in a discreet area possibly along the jawline to see if you are able to tolerate it. We don’t want you to feel dry and if it doesn’t feel moisturizing enough or you are reacting, then return to the occlusive ointment and try the next day. Everyone will heal differently and at different rates depending on many factors including the intensity of the treatment. You may require more time using the balm.
Day Five Onward
-
At this time, you may be able to tolerate your own moisturizer and makeup. Again, some patients will require more time to peel and heal depending on the type of treatment. These are guidelines only. If you are having a series of rejuvenating treatments you may be back in makeup and resuming activities in 4-5 days. Others will require more down time and have to adjust their post treatment accordingly. They may require 1 week to 10 days of actual downtime and up to a month for the pink appearance to diminish. This would be the exception.
Please call/text our office at 250 860 9919 during regular business hours if you encounter any issues or have any questions.

Fractora by InMode
Pre-Treatment
WHAT IS USED TO MINIMIZE THE DISCOMFORT ASSOCIATED WITH THE TREATMENT PROCEDURE?
- Prior to treatment you will have a topical anaesthetic (numbing cream) applied to the areas which will be treated.
- This numbing will stay on the skin for approximately 1 hour prior to treatment.
WHAT WILL I FEEL DURING THE PROCEDURE?
Generally, the resurfacing procedure requires 1-2 passes. The initial pass is typically tolerable; however, with each additional pass the heat affiliated with the treatment may become more intense.
For many, there are specific areas on the face which tend to be more sensitive:
- Upper lip
- Top of the cheek (below the eye)
- Any region on the face that tends to be dry
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I REQUIRE?
- Typically most individuals will require 2 – 4 treatments.
- Treatments are scheduled typically once a month.
SHOULD I PREPARE MYSELF AND/OR SKIN PRIOR TO TREATMENT?
- Like all laser treatments, it is very important to come to the office without any type of sun/windburn.
- The face should be free of any make-up.*
- You should drink plenty of water prior to treatment and afterwards as it is critical to keep the skin hydrated post treatment and drinking water will assist.
- *The skin will be re-cleaned prior to treatment at the clinic.
Post-Treatment
WHAT WILL I FEEL/LOOK LIKE AFTER THE PROCEDURE?
- The treated skin will feel very tight and appear very red.
- For many the skin feels tender, however this differs from one individual to the next.
- At the end of the treatment Vivier V-Stat and moisturizer will be applied to your skin.
HOW LONG A DOWNTIME IS EXPECTED?
Dependent on how invasive a treatment is, we expect there to be some social downtime. We offer Vivier V-Stat in the clinic, which acts to heal and protect after the procedure. This may be built into package pricing, or an additional add-on. Most people will return to work the next day with an appearance resembling sunburn and in some cases mild edema (puffiness) around the eye region.
CONFIRMATION OF TREATMENT CONDITIONS
- Refrain from Botox or Dermal Filler injections, Waxing, Electrolysis, Depilatories within 14 days of treatment.
- Refrain from tanning within 1 month of treatment

While we endeavor to provide you the best outcome, results are not guaranteed nor can we provide refunds on treatments.
Post Care Instructions Following Fractora Resurfacing
Day 1: Following the Fractora procedure, you will leave the office wearing Vivier V-Stat to help with inflammation and itching as the skin heals. Wear this for the day, touching up as needed. Keep in mind the skin has been broken, and ensure to always use clean hands or a new flocked sponge for application.
- Night #1: At bedtime, you may gently wash the treated area and apply V-Stat. We suggest using an old pillowcase, or a clean towel on your bed as V-Stat may stain or leave residue on your sheets.
Day 2: Wash treated area and apply a thin layer of V-Stat. Wear for the day, touching up as needed.
- At bedtime, follow the same routine as night #1.
Day 3-4: Wash treated area and apply a thin layer of V-Stat. This should be used once daily for the next 1-2 weeks following the procedure, as you will see outlined below. You may then apply your moisturizer, SPF, and makeup of choice.
Day 5: Full skincare regime is to be started again.
Post Procedure Tips
It is also important to note that everyone responds differently to laser and resurfacing treatments, thus downtime will differ from one individual to another. It is critical to follow the following recommendations to minimize the potential risk of any problems occurring post treatment.
- Redness and tightening are typical the first 1-4 days after treatment.
- Until the skin has scabbed after 48 hours, avoid any excessive dust, pet dander, or anything that may interfere with wound healing (such as strenuous exercise, sweat)
- Do not use hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, or go swimming for the initial 48 hours post treatment. Excessive heat such as from a sauna, or even a hair dryer, may aggravate the skin.
- Do not pick, pull, or scratch on any exfoliating or loosening skin.
- Avoid direct sun exposure and apply an appropriate sun-block during the day.
- Retinol products are not to be used until day 5 post procedure, and only at night.

- Hydrate the body by drinking plenty of water, and,
- Protect the skin from sun exposure with suitable clothing and use of sun block SPF 30+ before first treatment and between subsequent treatment sessions but do NOT use sun blocking creams within 24hrs of scheduled treatments.
Hot and humid weather conditions can aggravate skin in the period immediately before treatment.

Sclerotherapy
Pre-Treatment
- Do not take aspirin, ibuprofen, or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for 2 days before your treatment because these medications can increase bruising.
- Wear a long skirt or loose long pants to the appointment.
- Come in for your appointment with as little of a tan as possible on your legs to decrease the chances of hyperpigmentation.
- Do not shave your legs the day of your appointment to avoid discomfort. ● Do not apply cream or lotion to your legs.
Post-Treatment
- Walking – Go for a half hour walk immediately after your treatment. Continue with daily 30 minute walks or any aerobic exercise involving the legs. Avoid heavy lifting, high resistance or strenuous exercise for the first 28 to 72 hours.
- Cotton balls and tape – These should be removed in 3 – 4 hours.
- 3. Compression stocking: Please wear your stocking for the first night, overnight, then continue during the day for one week. Following this, the stocking can be removed prior to bed. You may remove the stocking to bathe, just put them back on right after. This is an important part of the treatment because it helps to keep the treated vein closed and minimizes bruising.
Travelling / Extended Sitting
If traveling for more than 30 minutes, move your feet at least every half hour or stretch your legs out of the car every 2 hours. Similarly, if you are traveling by plane, wear your stockings even if you have completed treatment as this will greatly reduce any swelling or discomfort.
Activity / Exercise
If larger veins were treated avoid high impact activities for 1 – 2 weeks but continue your daily walking for 30 minutes. Activities to avoid include: heavy weight lifting with your legs, any weight lifting that causes you to “bear down” to lift, and high intensity aerobic activities for one week.
Avoid
Avoid hot baths, tubs, yoga and saunas for 2 weeks. If you must bathe, ensure the water isn’t too hot and limit your stay in the tub. Extreme or prolonged heat exposure dilates the blood vessels potentially opening up the veins we are trying to close. Showers and pools are fine.
Sun tanning should be avoided if possible after injection to keep the possibility of darkening or hyperpigmentation of the treated area to a minimum. The use of SPF 30 or higher sunblock is a good precautionary measure if sun exposure is unavoidable. Please be especially careful for the first month after treatment.
Expectations
Do not be concerned if the injected area(s) appear bruised and/or swollen. This is normal for many skin types and normally disappears in less than 14 days. It is not unusual to feel a hard cord for several weeks or possibly months along the injected vein. If you notice trapped blood in the treated vein which is firm, tender or painful when touched or you rub against something, please contact the clinic to discuss your symptoms if there is significant pain.
In some cases, the treated vein may also be red and quite tender. Ibuprofen/Tylenol will help ease the discomfort and it is important that you continue wearing your compression stocking and walk. If the area is quite tender or if it seems to be worsening, you should contact the clinic.
You should call the clinic if there are any signs of allergic reaction (eg.rash), if there is redness and swelling of the leg beyond the immediate injection sites or if the leg is too sore to walk on. In general, there may be some discomfort following treatment of the vein but it is usually relieved by walking.
The medication we use to close the veins can make you feel dehydrated for a short period of time. Please ensure you are well hydrated prior to your appointment and following. Water is available in the waiting room after your treatment.
Please call our office at 250-860-9919 during regular business hours if you encounter any problems or have a question.
Compression Stocking Application and Care
- Stockings can be hand washed and hung to dry or they can be washed on a delicate cycle and hung to dry.
- Do not use fabric softener on the stockings as it decreases the life and effectiveness of the silicone.
- Use rubber or kitchen gloves to assist in the application of the stocking. This will help avoid getting runs in the stockings and to adjust the stockings when they are on.
- It is not necessary to pull the stocking to the groin for a good fit. 90% of the compression happens at the ankle and it graduates as it goes up your leg. Mid thigh is a good position for the stocking as we want you to feel comfortable and wear the stocking as prescribed to achieve the best results.
*Stockings can be replaced if it is deemed it is a manufacturer’s defect.
*However, our suppliers can NOT replace stockings due to wear and tear, toe/finger nail runs or holes.
Please take care of your stocking – and they will take care of you.
Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT)
Pre-Treatment
- Do not take aspirin, ibuprofen, or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for 2 days before your treatment because these medications can increase bruising.
- Wear a long skirt or loose long pants to the appointment.
- Come in for your appointment with as little of a tan as possible on your legs to decrease the chances of hyperpigmentation.
- Do not shave your legs the day of your appointment to avoid discomfort.
- Do not apply cream or lotion to your legs.
Post-Treatment
Once the procedure is completed, we will assist you with putting on your compression stocking(s). You will need to sleep in the stocking(s) for the first 3 days, removing it to shower. Then wear it for the next 10 days, removing it at bedtime.
When you are ready to leave the clinic, you will need to walk for 30 minutes. Walking daily is encouraged and promotes faster healing. We would like you to keep moving and maintain a normal level of activity. We expect you to resume most of your pre-procedure activities including work the following day.
Things to avoid:
- Prolonged sitting or standing for the first week. Elevate your legs at least 3 times a day for 5 to 10 minutes.
- Strenuous exercise such as aerobics or weight training for 2 weeks
- Hot tubs, hot baths, hot saunas for 2 weeks
- Heavy lifting for 2 weeks
- Sun exposure to the treated areas for the first month, use SPF 30 or higher if needed
Over the small incision we will place Steri-Strips and a dressing pad. Remove the dressing after 2-3 days, leave the Steri-Strips in place until they begin to loosen
on their own. Long gauze dressings may also be applied and will need to stay in place for 48 hours.
You may have some discomfort following the procedure. Most people do well with Ibuprofen (Advil). If you are having extreme discomfort or bleeding, notify the office immediately. Please take Ibuprofen (Advil) 400mg every 4-6 hours during the day for 5 days. This is to prevent vein inflammation. In addition to Ibuprofen, you can take Extra-Strength Acetaminophen (Tylenol) 500mg every 4 hours if necessary.
After the laser treatment, the vein will go hard and may be felt at the surface of the skin. This is an expected sign after the procedure and will continue to go away with time (sometimes months, up to a year for some). The vein may feel hard or “ropey” to the touch, possibly tender to touch as well.
You may notice some pain or discomfort 2 weeks after your procedure, this is normal during the healing process. If you have any concerns regarding pain and symptoms post procedure, please feel free to call the clinic and we will discuss how to mitigate this stage of healing.
If you had one leg treated, you will need 2 follow up appointments, or if you had both legs treated you will need 5 follow up appointments. These appointments will involve a quick ultrasound and any injections (sclerotherapy) that are needed. After having sclerotherapy, you will be required to wear the compression stocking(s) for 1 week.
Please bring your compression stocking(s) to every follow up appointment.

Chemical Peels
Pre-Treatment
Consultation required prior to treatment and a test spot is to be performed.
Before undergoing a chemical peel, it’s important to consider certain skin conditions and medical histories:
- Patients with active cold sores, warts, sunburn, excessive skin sensitivity, vitiligo, autoimmune disorders, dermatitis, or inflammatory rosacea in the treatment area should avoid the peel to prevent exacerbating these conditions.
- If you have a history of herpes simplex (cold sores), allergies, rashes, or skin reactions, inform the clinic as these may indicate increased sensitivity to the treatment. ● Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and ethnicity should be disclosed, as they can influence the treatment’s safety and the risk of pigmentation changes.
- The peel is not recommended for those who have taken Accutane in the past year or undergone chemotherapy. Please discuss your medical history with your provider before treatment.
Before treatment, please discontinue any active ingredients three (3) days prior, such as: retinol, salicylic acid, hydroquinone, AHA/BHA, etc).
Post-Treatment
- Immediately after the peel, your skin may be light yellow or white. This will fade in 4-6 hours.
- The provider will apply a sunscreen to the skin immediately after the peel. It is mandatory to be diligent with your sun protection after this treatment (even in the winter or cloudy days)
- Your skin may be red for the initial few days, and will feel dry during the peeling process. 4. When washing your face, use a gentle cleanser, and always pat to dry. 5. Before bed on the night of your treatment, please splash the face with water, pat to dry. Do not apply any other products.
- AM Routine: wash with a gentle cleanser, apply a Vitamin C serum, and finish with a sunscreen.
- PM Routine: wash with a gentle cleanser, apply a Vitamin C serum. Try NOT to apply a moisturizer as this will inhibit the peeling process. Only apply if necessary. 8. Approximately 48-72 hours after the treatment, your skin will start to peel. This peeling will generally last 3-7 days. Do not pick or pull the skin.
- *It is important to note that everyone will peel differently, and this is not an indication of effectiveness of the treatment*
- Exfoliate lightly on day 6 or 7 and continue using sunscreen with SPF of at least 30 and avoid direct sunlight for at least four weeks.
- Do not have any other facial treatment for at least one week after your peel. 12. You may resume the regular use of Retinol, bleaching creams, or anything with active ingredients only after the peel process is complete.
- If you would like to intensify the results of your peel, please discuss this with your provider. There are take home skincare products that can be purchased to facilitate the peeling and sloughing process. (AHA/BHA exfoliating cream)

Microneedling
Pre-Treatment
Avoid Retinol/Retinoids and Exfoliants: Avoid using topical retinoids and exfoliating agents like alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs) for a few days before the treatment. This is to reduce the risk of excessive skin irritation.
No Prolonged Sun Exposure: Patients should avoid prolonged sun exposure and tanning for at least a week before the procedure to minimize the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
Stay Hydrated: It’s often advised to keep the skin well-hydrated in the days leading up to the treatment. Hydrated skin can respond better to microneedling.
Discontinue Certain Medications: Patients may be advised to stop taking certain medications, like blood thinners or NSAIDs, a few days prior, to reduce the risk of bleeding and bruising. Please advise us of all medications and supplements.
No Active Skin Infections: Treatment should not be performed on skin that is sunburned, or has active acne, eczema, or any other infections. The integrity of the skin barrier should be intact.
Also Advisable to Reduce Alcohol Consumption: Avoiding alcohol for a day or two before the treatment is often recommended to reduce the risk of bruising.
Post-Treatment
- We ask that you leave the PRP on your skin for the remainder of the day (minimum 4 hours).
- You will experience inflammation, lasting 1 to 3 days, as well as mild to moderate swelling, lasting 12 to 24 hours. Ice or cold compresses can be applied to reduce swelling if required.
- Do not pick, pull, or scratch at any exfoliating or loosening skin.
- Please avoid sweaty exercise and sun exposure for 72 hours post-procedure.
- For 3 to 5 days avoid using topical retinol/retinoids and exfoliating agents like alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs).
- Please avoid hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, etc for 1 week.
- You may notice a tingling sensation while the cells are being activated, this may last up to 1 week.
- Do not have any radio frequency, or resurfacing treatments for 2 weeks.
