After electrocautery for skin tags, seborrheic keratoses, etc.
Please Do
- Expect the area to become red around the edges and to crust in the centre for the first 1-2 weeks. The redness should not grow and if this area starts to expand, please call the office at 250 860 9919.
- Keep the treated areas uncovered or use a non-stick dressing over areas in the bra-line or around the waist where pants rub.
- Apply a small amount of Polysporin if your incision becomes slightly red.
- Expect the treated areas to be tender for 1-2 weeks.
- Take Advil/Ibuprofen if the area is painful.
- Apply sunscreen if going out in the sun: use a good sunscreen with a SPF of 30+ until the redness is gone from the scar. The new scar is sun-sensitive and will easily burn if not protected.
- Be aware that after the red discolouration disappears, hyperpigmentation (brown colour) or hypopigmentation (white colour) may be present 3-5 months. These conditions are rare but if they occur, use a sunscreen (SPF30) on the area until the normal colour returns.
Please Avoid
- Swimming and contact sports should be avoided while red discolouration present.
- Do not rub, scratch or pick at the treated area while red discolouration present.
