"Dear Colleagues
The 35th annual congress of the Canadian Society of Phlebology was held at the Delta Centre-Ville Hotel in Montreal, Qc, Canada on October 2-3. It was co-chaired by Jean-Luc Dupuis, Pauline Raymond- Martimbeau and Frédéric Vin.
The aim and learning objectives of the meeting were to update the knowledge on sclerotherapy and alternative treatments of chronic venous disorders as well as the management of their side effects. The meetings were held over two days, during the first day Part II of the SCP/CSP fellowship: Visual and Interventional Sclerotherapy topics were presented as lectures, workshops and discussions. The second day was structured as presentations of challenging topics delivered by Canadian, American and French experts.
The highlights of the day were presentations by keynote speakers on “Thromboprophylaxis Guidelines” discussed by Catherine Sperlich and “Updates on Thrombophilias Associated with Thromboembolic Disease” discussed by Sylvie Desmarais.
A cursory view of the presentations and presenters is true evidence of the great strides we have made in the field of phlebology, as well as the potential for future growth and development of our methods and skills. French speakers, André Cornu-Thénard, Claude Garde, Jean-Pierre Gobin, Mario Sica, Jean-Francois Uhl and Frédéric Vin raised interest and draw attendees to attend that program. Selected for their expertise in a particular field, they increased enthusiasm among attendees for a very productive meeting.
A culminating point of the meeting was the official declaration of Jean-Pierre Gobin, SFP President and myself: “It is with great pleasure that we inform you that it is now an accomplished fact – the Société Française de Phlébologie and the Canadian Society of Phlebology have agreed to share the same official publication - the “Phlébologie-Annales Vasculaires”.
We, Canadians, are extremely pleased and positive about this moment in the history of our discipline. We know the synergy of our combined knowledge and expertise will benefit and profit not only our patients, our practices, and our research as we move into the future, but will also make significant contribution to the global practice of medicine.
Dear French colleagues, please accept our thanks for your contributions to the development of this program through your participation and friendship and to this significant advancement in the history of our organization.
Dear Canadian colleagues, together with our French colleagues, your continued support for these efforts by submitting articles for publication and participation in professional activities of both organizations will make us even stronger and more effective in the development of the discipline of Phlebology. All participants were asked to complete the evaluation form and as a conclusion from the results the meeting was successful and greatly appreciated.
The next meeting of the SCP/CSP will be held at the Metropolitan Hotel, in Vancouver, BC, Canada, April 15-17, 2011.
